Mom has done her best raising the family. At times, that was a challenge for all of us. And she has always wanted the best for her children. I believe all Moms - ALL MOMS - and DADS too - do the best they can. That doesn't mean growing up is easy - for the kids or for parents.
And sometimes, an Encourager challenges Mom...
Over the past few years, Mom's hearing has faded. We've been to several different audiologists. Mom has tried several different hearing aids, Each new solution worked for a brief time, then Mom went back to her old hearing aids.
She's persistent. Each new hearing solution gave her hope. When the new hearing aids didn't give her the clarity she wanted, she was discouraged. Yet, she would push on.
She's faith-filled. After the discouragement lessened, she would start asking questions about new technology. She BELIEVES there is a solution that will help her.
She's willing to accept help. This is a lesson I'm starting to learn. During our quest for better hearing for Mom, we've always returned to the same audiologist. Molly M.
Molly is a talented professional. She's also an amazing friend and encourages Mom. Recently, Molly challenged Mom. Whew. Mom is strong-willed!!! And it went well. Molly has always had Mom's best interest at heart. Molly is also extremely kind and compassionate - like Mom She told Mom that the new hearing aids and adjustments will be UNCOMFORTABLE.
"Dorothy, at some point, you're going to have to be uncomfortable for a while so you can hear conversations better."
Mom's biggest challenge has been missing out on conversations with people who matter to her.
"Dorothy, you enjoy peace and quiet. Your old hearing aids give you that. You also have a strong desire to hear conversations. To do that, you're going to have to be uncomfortable for a little while."
Mom agreed. And I learned another important lesson in Encouragement from Mom and Molly.
